Chery is a member of: ICOMOS Australia, the Grants Committee of the NSW Heritage Council, a community member of the Burwood Local Council Independent Hearing & Assessment Panel (IHAP). A member of the NSW National Trust, & an executive committee member of the Burwood & District Historical Society.

Chery is the principal partner of the firm and has undertaken a wide range of heritage projects including Heritage Impact Statements, Conservation Management Plans, Heritage Assessments, Heritage DA Assessments, Heritage Studies including reviews of potential heritage items and potential heritage conservation areas, and State Heritage Inventory upgrades.

Chery has had over 20 years experience in the Heritage Conservation field, including at City of Sydney, South Sydney, North Sydney and Bankstown Councils. She has worked on Conservation Management Plans (including the Goat Island CMP for NSW National Parks and Margaret Farm CMP for NSW Department of Planning), Harold Park Heritage Study for City of Sydney Council, Ku-ring-gai Town Centres potential Heritage Conservation Areas Review; Ku-ring-gai potential Heritage Conservation Areas North Review, and heritage item reviews for Marrickville, Campbelltown, Ku-ring-gai – Pentecost Ave area and Railcorp (Illawarra line). The Railcorp Illawarra Line S170 review was part of a project that attracted a 2011 National Trust/Energy Australia Heritage Award. Chery has undertaken heritage DA assessments for Bayside, City of Ryde and Woollahra Councils, and recent Heritage DA assessments for Inner West, Ku-ring-gai and North Sydney Councils.

Chery has worked on projects for the NSW government (NSW National Parks, NSW Dept of Planning, Industry & Environment, institutions (including University of Technology, Sydney and Western Sydney University), local councils, as well on private commercial and residential projects.

Chery also has extensive experience in the Land & Environment Court experience as a Heritage expert witness.

John Johnson, Partner/Historian/IT support: B.A., Diploma of Information Science. Master of Arts in Applied History, TAFE Certificate Course in Book Restoration.

John is a member of the Built Heritage Committee of the NSW National Trust, and Vice-President of the Burwood & District Historical Society.

John has over 22 years experience working in the local studies/local history field in NSW including for numerous local councils and for the NSW State Library as a Architectural Archivist (2004-2008).

John has extensive experience in:

  • writing property and place histories,
  • preparation of exhibitions including exhibition catalogues, and
  • histories for publication on particular topics (for example, history of Chipping Norton Lakes Scheme, and a chapter “The Road to Kurrajong” in “Hardy Wilson: Artist Architect Visionary” Edwards, Zeny (ed.)).
  • research through examination of historical photographs.

Kemp & Johnson Heritage Consultants have previously worked on multi-disciplinary projects and, when required, are able to draw on experienced sub consultants we have previously worked with and whose work we trust, with expertise in heritage architecture, archaeology and historical research.
